About Mary Margaret

Licensed Clinical Social Worker | Dallas, TX

CBT Therapist for Teens, Young Adults & Adults

Hi, I'm Mary Margaret Fair, LCSW.

I'm a licensed clinical social worker and the founder of Fair Collective Counseling, a private therapy practice in the Highland Park/Uptown area of Dallas, TX.

The name "Fair Collective" means something specific to me. Therapy isn't a one-sided process—it's a collaborative relationship where we work together toward meaningful change. The collective is you and me: two people working toward the same goal. That collaborative relationship is the foundation of everything I do.

I work with older adolescents (16+), college students, young adults, and adults navigating anxiety, major life transitions, new medical diagnoses, and relationship stress. My clients tend to be self-aware, motivated, and ready to do something different — even if they're not quite sure what that looks like yet.

I see clients in person at my Dallas office two days a week, and virtually Monday-Friday for anyone in Texas. I'm currently accepting new clients with no waitlist.

My Approach to Therapy

I’m a CBT therapist — but let me tell you what that actually means, because it’s not as clinical as it sounds.

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The short version: the way you think affects the way you feel, and the way you feel affects what you do. When you’re stuck in a spiral — overthinking, avoiding, people-pleasing, shutting down — there’s usually a pattern underneath it driving the whole thing. CBT is how we find that pattern and disrupt it.

What makes my approach different from a lot of therapy is that we don’t just process. We build. Every client leaves with something tangible — a framework, a tool, a strategy they can actually use when things get hard. That’s important to me. I want therapy to make a real difference in your day-to-day life, not just in the session.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

The foundation of my work. We identify the negative thought patterns keeping you stuck and redirect them toward something more useful — and more accurate.

  • Motivational Interviewing

I meet you where you are. If you have mixed feelings about change, that's okay — we work through it together rather than pushing past it.

  • Solution-Focused Strategies

We spend time on what's working and build from there. Progress-oriented, practical, and forward-moving.

  • Person-Centered Approach

No two clients are alike. Everything I do is tailored to your specific goals, personality, and pace.

Social Work Consultation

In addition to individual therapy, I offer professional consultation for social workers who are building their careers, developing their clinical identity, or preparing to launch a private practice. Whether you’re just starting out or navigating a specific challenge in your work, I’m happy to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

CBT — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy — is a structured, evidence-based approach that focuses on the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In practice, it means we identify the patterns that are making things harder and work on changing them — not just understanding them. It's practical, collaborative, and built around real progress.

I'm not an insight-only therapist. Understanding why something is happening is useful, but the goal is always to do something about it. Every session is oriented toward progress — you'll leave with tools, not just reflections.

It varies, but many clients notice a real shift within 8–12 sessions. Some work through a specific issue and feel ready to move on; others find ongoing therapy valuable as life continues to evolve. We'll talk about your goals early and revisit them regularly so you always know where you stand.
